The Rossendale Ramblers have had a busy week of walking, with more exciting routes planned for the coming days. On Wednesday, 12 members braved the damp conditions on a 10-mile walk from Hardcastle Crags, passing several reservoirs before descending into Walshaw Woods and stopping at the National Trust's Gibson Mill café for a well-deserved break.
Evening Pub Walk and Sunday Adventure
That evening, nine walkers enjoyed a scenic two-hour pub walk from Haslingden, escaping the rain. The route took them to the curiously named Pike Law and the Halo panopticon, before returning to the pub for an extended social gathering. On Sunday, the group was 10 strong on an eight-mile walk from the impressive Denham Hill Quarry near Chorley. With no rain, the walkers enjoyed lovely views and marvelled at the flight of seven locks at Johnson's Hillock on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
Upcoming Walks
Looking ahead, on Sunday, June 14, the group offers a 10-mile walk from Burrs Country Park in Bury, visiting Summerseat, Ramsbottom, and the delightful conservation area of Nangreaves. This is followed on Wednesday, June 17 by an 11-mile walk from Haigh near Wigan, featuring flat terrain through lush green countryside, woodland, parkland, country lanes, and canal towpaths, with an ice cream stop at Haigh Hall. The week concludes on Friday, June 19 with the annual challenge walk, a demanding 23-mile route with 3,300 feet of ascent starting from the lovely village of Chipping, tackling Parlick, Fairsnape Fell, Holmehouse Fell, Fiendsdale, and Bleasdale.
