Rossendale Ramblers enjoyed a busy week of walking, with three separate outings attracting a total of 37 participants. The group's activities included a 10-mile trek from Worsthorne, a two-hour social pub walk from Shuttleworth, and an eight-mile circular route from Barrowford to Barley.
Wednesday Walk from Worsthorne
On Wednesday, 14 ramblers set off from Worsthorne despite blustery conditions, completing a 10-mile route that took in Hurstwood Reservoir and the village of Hurstwood, noted for its atmospheric old houses. The walk also passed through Holme Chapel and Cliviger before returning to the start.
Thursday Evening Pub Walk
A beautiful Thursday evening saw 11 walkers and one dog join a sociable two-hour pub walk from Shuttleworth. The route passed through Stubbins Village and followed part of the disused Manchester to Accrington railway line. The group stopped in Chatterton Village to discuss the weavers' uprising of 1826, and the evening concluded with an extra hour of conversation at the pub.
Sunday Circular Walk from Barrowford
On Sunday, August 9, 12 ramblers completed a delightful eight-mile circular walk from Barrowford to Barley, featuring Pendle Water and Pendle Hill, including stepping stones across Pendle Water at Roughlee. The week's walks were described as a lovely way to end a period of walking.
Upcoming Walks
The group has a busy schedule ahead, starting Sunday, August 16 with a six-mile walk from Ball Grove Park in Colne, focusing on the East Colne Way, with Noyna Hill likely visible. This walk is expected to finish by 2pm, allowing time for family or shopping.
On Wednesday, August 19, a nine-mile walk from Ogden Water Country Park in Calderdale will explore the local area, including Perseverance Road. Friday, August 21 brings an 11-mile linear walk from Monkroyd back to Brierfield, taking in parts of the Pennine Bridleway, Bronte Way, Pendle Way, and Burnley Way.
