The 73rd Derby Scout Group has returned from an action-packed week in Denmark, where 49 young people and 12 leaders embarked on a summer adventure that combined outdoor challenges, cultural exploration, and team-building. The group travelled in a convoy of five vehicles across Europe, making the most of the Danish landscape and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Adventure and Challenge in the Danish Outdoors
During their stay, the Scouts tested their limits with a variety of water sports and team activities. One of the highlights was raft building, where teams constructed floating craft from scratch before putting them to the test on open water. Participants also tried their hand at kayaking and water orienteering, which demanded navigation skills and teamwork in unfamiliar surroundings.
Back on dry land, the group engaged in leather workshops and sand casting, crafting handmade souvenirs to remember their journey. These activities were designed to build confidence and independence, key goals of the trip according to organisers.
Cultural Highlights and Local History
Cultural excursions were also a major part of the itinerary. The Scouts enjoyed a day at the world-famous LEGO House, a paradise for creativity and play, and relaxed at the Lalandia Aquadome water park after a busy schedule. To delve into local history, the group toured a Skoda museum and attended a traditional weaving workshop, witnessing skilled craftspeople in action.
The return journey included a brief stop in Osnabrück, Germany, Derby's twin city. The group hopes to return to Osnabrück in 2027 to celebrate the ongoing partnership between the two areas, strengthening international ties.
