Museum of Illusions is set to open at the former Pavilions shopping centre in Birmingham city centre, bringing a 'mind-bending adventure' to the site that has been empty for more than a year. An application has been submitted to Birmingham City Council to change the use of the former Pavilions shop on High Street to an 'interactive edutainment museum'.
Third UK location for global franchise
The interactive 'edutainment museum' will be the third UK location for the global franchise, following sites in London and Manchester. According to the Manchester version's website: "Imagine stepping into a world where the impossible, actually, is possible."
Plans include a 'vortex tunnel', 'colour room', 'ghost room' and 'brain gym' across multiple floors of the former H&M and Monki shop site next to Primark. The Museum of Illusions began in Zagreb, Croatia in 2015 and has grown to more than 70 museums across 28 countries.
Jobs and operating hours
The Birmingham branch would create 18 full-time equivalent jobs and operate from 9am to 10pm daily. The planning application is currently in public consultation until Sunday, September 27.
The former Pavilions site has been vacant for over a year, and this new attraction aims to revitalise the city centre location. The museum's global expansion includes locations in major cities worldwide, with the Birmingham site set to join the network.
Public consultation underway
Residents and interested parties can view the application and submit comments during the consultation period. The decision on the planning application will be made by Birmingham City Council after the consultation closes.
The proposed museum would transform the multi-floor retail space into an immersive experience, potentially drawing visitors to the area and contributing to the local economy.
