Across a sun-soaked weekend, people attending Birmingham Pride spoke about the inclusive event which 'means everything' to them. Since 1997, Birmingham Pride has remained one of the most colourful days of the year, filled with rainbows, glitter, and magic.
Voices from the Crowd
Joined by Rocky the dog, Rachel and Rachel were two women enjoying Pride who had never 'been anywhere with such a great atmosphere'. Speaking to BirminghamLive, they said: 'People forget this is a protest, even more nowadays. It's so important to show our solidarity. I've never been anywhere with such a great atmosphere. Honestly, it's so welcoming and everyone is in such a good mood. No one judges each other. Just be yourself, love who you want to love and the allies are fantastic.'
Representing St Basil's
Representing homeless service St Basil's, Tony said: 'It's a really beautiful opportunity for people to come together and celebrate, not just who they are, but love and appreciation for everyone else.' Another worker for St Basil's, Natasha, added: 'I think in a city like Birmingham, which is so multicultural, multifaceted, it's amazing to see how many people are out here today embracing Pride.'
Drag Queens Speak Out
Drag queen Hoezempic Drag said: 'To me, Pride is a celebration of everyone coming together. Supporting each other as one big community and having a great day, great week, great month.' James Elson said: 'For people and others like myself, you can go around and have a good time.' And drag queen Valentic Valle said: 'Birmingham Pride means everything to me. It's all about love and inclusivity, peace for all. That's what I care about, peace and love for all.'
