Peaky Blinders Extra Shares Behind-the-Scenes Glimpse of Cillian Murphy
An extra who worked on the hit Netflix film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man has revealed a surprising and humorous moment involving star Cillian Murphy, offering fans a unique look at the actor's off-camera personality.
Adam Crolla's Experience on Set
Adam Crolla, who participated in filming for the movie, described his role as a non-speaking extra among over 150 others on the first day and around 30 on the second. He was involved in key scenes, including a boxing match where he had to react with shock and fear as Murphy's character, Tommy Shelby, entered the ring and fired a gun.
During rehearsals, Cillian Murphy once used his fingers as a pretend gun and shouted "bang! bang!" instead of using a prop, which Adam found hilarious compared to the actor's intense in-character demeanor during actual takes. This playful moment contrasted sharply with Murphy's usual serious approach, showcasing a lighter side to the acclaimed performer.
Incredible Set Design and Attention to Detail
Adam praised the set at the Liverpool Astoria, calling it "incredible" and noting that even the smallest elements were meticulously crafted to reflect the period. He highlighted details like:
- Period-accurate coins placed on betting tables
- Authentic tickets littered on the floor with real fight schedules
He recalled that the environment genuinely felt like stepping back in time, enhancing the immersive experience for cast and crew alike.
Supporting Cast and Film Synopsis
Adam also appreciated how other leading actors fully inhabited their characters, even when they weren't the focus of the scene. The film, set in Birmingham, follows Tommy Shelby as he emerges from retirement to rescue his son Duke, played by Barry Keoghan, who becomes entangled in a Nazi conspiracy during World War II.
The Immortal Man concludes the present generation of Shelbys, with Arthur Shelby killed by Tommy before the film's events, and Tommy ultimately finding peace in death after living in exile. The story ends with Duke taking center stage as the new head of the Birmingham gang, signaling a fresh chapter for the family.
