Richard Osman Announces Departure from BBC's House of Games
Richard Osman has sensationally stepped down from his role as presenter of the BBC show House of Games after nine years. The former Pointless host confirmed his departure, marking the end of an era for the popular television programme.
A New Host to Take Over the Show
Osman announced that he is handing over the reins to a new presenter, although the identity of the replacement has not yet been revealed. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "It has been such a great pleasure, and honour, to present House of Games for the last nine years, with the absolute best team in television." He added, "But it's time to let someone else have a go, and I'm very excited to hand over the House keys to the lucky new host."
The Show's Success and Future Plans
House of Games, which airs every weekday at 6pm on BBC 2, has been a significant hit since its debut in 2017. The current series, series nine, attracts an average of 1.6 million viewers. BBC daytime chief Rob Unsworth praised Osman's contribution, saying, "Richard Osman has established House of Games as one of our best-loved shows. His contribution to its success is impossible to overstate, and we couldn't be more grateful for his work over the last nine years."
Unsworth also hinted at the future, noting, "As we wish him even more success in the future, we also look forward to sharing with viewers who the House of Games's next resident will be - and will have more on that soon." One possibility being considered is a rotation of hosts, similar to the approach taken when Osman left Pointless three years ago to focus on his Thursday Murder Club novels, which have become bestsellers and are being adapted into a film by Steven Spielberg.
Osman reportedly has one final week of episodes to record before officially bidding farewell to viewers. His departure marks a significant change for the show, which has grown in popularity under his leadership. Fans are now eagerly awaiting news of the new host and the future direction of House of Games.
