Rochdale Churches June Events and Services Update

St Luke’s Church, Deeplish will hold a service of Holy Communion on June 7 at 10am, officiated by Revd Duke O’Baka-Toto. The service is followed by tea or coffee and a chance to chat. On Wednesday, June 10, at 10am, there will be a Bible Study open to anyone who would like to learn about the Bible in a friendly and informal way. Later that day, at 11am, a Holy Communion service will be officiated by Revd Duke O’Baka-Toto. The congregation welcomes regular members and newcomers alike.

St Mary's, Balderstone

Tomorrow morning’s service begins at 10.30am. The sermon series ‘The Gospel for All’ continues with Romans chapter nine, verses one to twenty-nine. Children’s groups are available for ages four to eleven. After the service, join us for a brew and cake. The Sunday evening shared prayer gathering meets at Christ Church (Block Lane, Chadderton, OL9 7QB) this week. This meeting is a time to pray together over different areas, causes, and individual concerns. All are welcome; if you cannot attend in person, you have the option of joining via Zoom.

SMUrFs, the babies and toddlers’ group, meets each Tuesday throughout term time at 1.30pm. Stay n Play offers toys, stories, snacks, and smiles for children aged 0 to 5, plus a warm cuppa for adults. The cost is just £1 for one adult with a child and an extra 30p for each additional child. Midweek groups are a great way to get connected, build friendships, and study the Bible together. The daytime group meets at 10am in the church lounge, and the evening group (7.30pm) meets on Zoom.

Advance notice: Saturday, June 20, there will be a quiz night with a meal in support of Springhill Hospice. Tickets are £5 per person. All are invited; bring your friends and form a quiz team. Holy Trinity Benefice of Littleborough

Last Sunday, the patronal festival celebrated the Holy Trinity, officiated by Rev Maureen Thorpe. This Sunday, Morning Prayer will be held at 10.15am. The Sunday School meets during the first half of the service for primary school children during term time. The service will be followed by tea, coffee, and biscuits. On Tuesday evenings, Bible Study and prayer meet at 7.30pm in a member’s home, continuing the study of the Holy Spirit.

Sadly, the Holy Trinity Youth Theatre Workshop has been disbanded due to licensing costs exceeding £1,500 per show. The church has many unsold costumes, some of which have been sold to societies in Germany, Italy, Norway, and America. Remaining costumes, including military caps, are available for sale. On Friday, June 12, at 7.30pm, a Spring Concert by Rochdale Light Orchestra, conducted by Graham Marshall, will be held. Tickets are £8 and can be purchased on the night or from church members.

St Chad's and St Mary in the Baum

Today, Saturday, June 6, St Chad's is open from 10am to 4pm, and tomorrow, Sunday, June 7, from 1pm to 4pm during the Boadfield Park Slopes Medieval Fayre. Admission is free. Events include archery, re-enactments, medieval music, cookery demonstrations, history displays, combat, medieval law courts, a manuscript workshop, and coin striking. Food and drinks are available in the Town Hall. On Sunday, June 7, the Eucharist with hymns is at 9.15am at St Mary's, and Choral Eucharist is at 11.15am at St Chad's. The Rev Pamela Parr is the celebrant and preacher.

Each Monday at St Mary's from 10am to 2pm, the Red Cross provides help for refugees. On Wednesday, June 10, at St Mary's from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, the Toad Lane Lunchtime Concert features The Nightingale Singers. Admission is £6. On Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm, St Chad's is open for visitors throughout the summer. Gardening takes place on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3pm, and cleaning on Thursdays from 10.30am to noon. Volunteers are welcome.

On Saturday, June 13, at St Chad's, a Come and Sing European Choral Classics workshop led by Gary Hulme runs from 10am, ending with a short concert at 3pm. Participants pay £12 including music and drinks; bring a packed lunch. The concert is free with a retiring collection. On Sunday, June 14, the Eucharist with hymns is at 9.15am at St Mary's, and Choral Matins at 11.15am at St Chad's. The Rev Duke O'Baka-Torto is the celebrant and preacher. St Andrew's, Dearnley

Last Sunday’s readings were Isaiah 40.12-17, 2 Corinthians 13.11-end, and Matthew 28.16-end. Next Sunday’s readings will be Hosea 5.15-6.6, Romans 4.13-end, and Matthew 9.9-13, 18-26. This week, Morning Prayer is on Wednesday at 9.30am, and the midweek Eucharist is on Thursday at 10.30am. On Sunday, June 7, an intergenerational service for children and adults in modern language will be held, with craft activities for children. All are welcome.

The summer fair is planned for June 27. Donations of raffle prizes such as bottles, chocolates, sweets, jams, and preserves are appreciated. New members for the 50 club are also sought; contact Janice for details. The church is asking for poppies for a November display; patterns are available in church, and spare red wool can be donated. This week’s verse is Romans 8:28: ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’
