Alison Hammond's Astonishing Family Link to Muhammad Ali Unveiled

Birmingham's beloved television personality Alison Hammond has left audiences stunned by revealing a remarkable family connection to one of the world's most iconic sports figures. During a recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, the This Morning presenter disclosed that her father served as a bodyguard for boxing legend Muhammad Ali, a relationship that profoundly influenced her family.

A Name with Legendary Origins

Host Jonathan Ross expressed surprise upon learning about the origins of Hammond's name, prompting the Brummie star to explain the extraordinary background. "My dad actually named me," Hammond revealed. "I've got another sister in Jamaica called Alicia and I've got another brother named Ali... because my dad was his bodyguard and he absolutely loved him."

The connection was so significant that Hammond's father would be called upon whenever Muhammad Ali visited Birmingham. He loved him."

Childhood Encounters with a Legend

Hammond recounted a particularly memorable childhood experience when the boxing champion visited Birmingham's Odeon cinema. "I went along and I went and sat on his lap," she recalled. "I was like get off me... why is this man kissing me."

Beyond the physical protection her father provided, Hammond revealed another surprising aspect of Muhammad Ali's personality. "He was massively into magic and used to give me little tricks," she said, highlighting the personal bond that extended beyond her father's professional duties.

A Lasting Family Legacy

The connection between the two families was so strong that many observers noted the physical resemblance between Hammond's father and the boxing champion. "A lot of people said they looked like brothers," Hammond shared, underscoring the depth of their relationship.

Hammond made these revelations while promoting her new television program 'Your Song,' which features ordinary people from across the country, including Birmingham residents, performing meaningful songs before live audiences. However, it was her personal family history that captured the most attention during the interview.

Remembering Her Father

The disclosure comes several years after the passing of Hammond's father, Clifford Hammond, who died in June 2020 in Jamaica. Her mother Maria had passed away just months earlier from lung and liver cancer. Following her father's death, Hammond shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, posting his photograph with the caption: "This is my real Dad Clifford Hammond who passed away last week in Jamaica..."

She continued: "I'm saddened that I won't be able to make his funeral and saddened that he wasn't part of my life as much as I would have liked but I still have a sense of loss and emptiness. Sleep well Daddy, love leaves a memory no one can steal. RIP."

The revelation provides a poignant glimpse into how Muhammad Ali's influence extended far beyond the boxing ring, touching the lives of Birmingham families in unexpected and lasting ways through personal connections that spanned decades.
