When thinking of top attractions in the West Midlands, names like Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, and West Midlands Safari Park often come to mind. Also popular are Twycross Zoo, the National Sea Life Centre, Legoland Discovery Centre, and Cadbury World. However, none of these have been mentioned in the latest shortlist for Visit England's Awards for Excellence.
Attwell Farm Park: A Hidden Gem
Attwell Farm Park in Beoley, Redditch, has been shortlisted for the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year award, competing against Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire and Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park in Suffolk. Remarkably, it is the only venue nominated for two awards, also making the shortlist for the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award alongside Hoe Grange Holidays in the Peak District and Nottingham Playhouse.
The farm park, a firm favourite with Brummies, has been family-run since 1963 when Michael Attwell started with a few chickens and a homemade coop. Today, children can meet and pet animals, enjoy the outdoor play area, and play in an indoor sand barn on rainy days. The attraction also features giant jumping pillows, a fire engine, pedal tractors, go-karts, a duck pond, and a bug barn, ensuring a fun-filled day out.
Affordable Family Fun
Tickets start from just £7.95 for adults and children, and £4 for under twos for off-peak admission when booked in advance. The address is Attwell Farm Park, Seafield Lane, Beoley, Redditch, Worcestershire B98 9DB.
Andrew Stokes, Director of Visit England, said: "These awards honour the very best businesses and individuals in tourism, who are the driving force in an industry that delivers growth to local economies across England. I thank them for their dedicated service, congratulate them on achieving finalist status, and wish them every success."
