3 Phase Records, a new independent record shop in Birmingham's historic Gun Quarter, opened on Loveday Street to widespread excitement, offering more than 5,000 records across two floors. The store features dedicated listening stations, specialist merchandise, and a carefully curated selection of sought-after classics and new releases, specializing in underground electronic music including techno, house, trance, hard house, drum & bass, and Northern Soul.
From Online to Bricks-and-Mortar
Brummie DJ and entrepreneur Tom Berry built a successful online business before deciding to launch a permanent physical store. On opening day, music enthusiasts traveled from across the UK, with some even coming from the Isle of Wight after catching the first ferry of the morning.
"Opening a record shop has been the ambition from day one," said Tom. "I've spent years building the business online while searching for the right premises. Seeing people travel from all over the country on opening weekend was something I'll never forget."
Creating a Destination for Collectors
Tom transformed a Grade II listed building into a destination for vinyl collectors and lovers of underground music. The shop stocks thousands of rare, collectible, and hard-to-find vinyl records alongside new releases.
"Streaming has changed how people listen to music, but it hasn't replaced the experience of discovering records, talking to other collectors and supporting independent shops," Tom added. "That's exactly the atmosphere I wanted to create."

3 Phase Records aims to foster community among vinyl enthusiasts, offering a space where customers can browse, listen, and connect. The store's location in the Gun Quarter places it near other cultural attractions, enhancing Birmingham's reputation as a hub for independent music retail.
