Lee Desange, owner of the beloved Baked in Brick pizzeria in Digbeth's Custard Factory, has assured customers that the brand will continue despite the restaurant's closure next month. In a video posted on July 18, 2026, Desange said 'this is not the end' and confirmed that the business will operate as a street food vendor and caterer after August 2.
Restaurant closure announced
Earlier this week, Baked in Brick announced it would close its doors at the Custard Factory after eight years. The final day of trading is set for Sunday, August 2. Desange emphasized that existing bookings for weddings and catering will be honored, and the brand will continue through street food events and festivals.
In a Facebook post, Desange said: "Good morning you lovely people. Obviously I announced last week we would be closing the restaurant. The last day of trading is Sunday August 2, we've got about three weeks." He added: "Absolutely blown away by all the comments, all the comments to Baked in Brick, all the comments to me personally. People writing like 'never forgot our first date in your restaurant', 'I remember you catered our wedding', it's been really nice to see."
Future plans for Baked in Brick
Desange explained that the restaurant is just one part of the brand. "Baked in Brick has many different entities. We still do loads of street food, we do loads of festivals, part of our business is event catering," he said. "People have asked if we are still catering their weddings? Yes, yes, yes, we are all still doing that stuff. It's not going to change and this is not the end for Baked in Brick. Baked in Brick is just the brand. The restaurant is one entity of that brand."
He encouraged fans to visit for a farewell meal before the closure. "If you want to come and see us off on our last day, a little farewell to me, our restaurant and staff, please book. If you can't make it on August 2, we're obviously still open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday." Desange also hinted at upcoming developments: "Lots of more interesting news coming your way from me very soon."
Baked in Brick is located at The Custard Factory, Gibb St, Deritend, Birmingham B9 4AA.
