Celebrity Gogglebox viewers expressed irritation and confusion shortly after the new series premiered on Channel 4 on Friday night, with many taking to social media to voice their discontent.
Star-Studded Return
The popular show returned with a mix of familiar faces and new additions. Returning celebrities included Denise Van Outen, Johnny Vaughan, Vicky Pattison, Pete Wicks, Nick Grimshaw, and his niece Liv. Newcomers to the show were Loose Women star Olivia Attwood and her mother Jennifer, as well as Harry and Matt, better known as Nitro and Legend from Gladiators. Other new faces included Strictly Come Dancing's George Clarke, content creator Max Balegde, Julian Clary, and former Coronation Street star Nigel Havers.
Viewer Reactions
As the celebrities watched and commented on this week's television, including ITV's The 1% Club, viewers at home took to X to share their confusion. One wrote: 'God am I old? Watching Celebrity Gogglebox and don't know half of the celebrities on it.' Another commented: 'I'm so out of touch. Who are most of these celebrities?' A third added: 'Don't know half of these celebrities.' Some suggested the show should display names and occupations for the less familiar faces, while others declared they would switch off entirely. One frustrated viewer said: 'F*** watching #CelebrityGogglebox whole minute we lasted!! Series link removed.' Another wrote: 'Bloody hell, this is extremely irritating with all these so-called celebs all trying too hard to be funny.' A third simply stated: 'Switched over. Can't bear this anymore.'
Stars Respond
Despite the backlash, show star Olivia Attwood described appearing on the show as 'chaotic but in the best possible way.' She said: 'My family are huge fans of the show so it's a real honour to be a part of such an iconic British programme.' George Clarke added: 'I loved it, mainly because it gave me a full excuse to take the mick out of Max on national TV. He reacts to everything, so you're never bored. It's so easy to get into as well, you just sit there, say exactly what you're thinking, and before you know it, we've gone completely off track!'
