Love Island 2026 bombshell George Knight has finally broken his silence on his abrupt departure from the villa, revealing an emotional family reason for his early exit. The 28-year-old professional footballer left the ITV2 show just six days in, leaving fans and fellow Islanders stunned.
George Knight's Emotional Statement
Taking to Instagram, George recorded a heartfelt message for his supporters, thanking them for their overwhelming support. He said: 'Hello everyone. I just wanted to take a moment and come on and say a massive massive thank you to every single person who has reached out over the past two days wishing me their love, their support and all their well wishes. It has been completely overwhelming and I am trying to get back to every message, which is proving pretty much impossible, but thank you so much.'
He continued: 'Moments like this give you a massive point of perspective on the bigger picture, and as fun and as great as my six days in the villa were, it’s obviously important for me to be here with my family.'
Family Comes First
While George didn't go into specific details about the personal matter that called him back home, he hinted it involved close family members. He added: 'So thank you so much it’s been completely overwhelming, and a massive thank you to all of ITV’s welfare team and the execs, who have been amazing. Hopefully it’s not the last you see of me I’m looking forward to the year ahead. Thanks again guys.'
Earlier, George had posted a simple statement alongside his Love Island headshot, writing: 'Family comes first, always. Leaving the @loveisland Villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I’d prefer not to go into any further detail.'
Support from Sister and Fellow Islanders
George's sister Emma praised his decision, commenting 'Love you George' on his post, to which he replied with three heart emojis. Former Love Island contestants also showed their support. Tommy Bradley from the 2025 series wrote: 'Well done bro,' while fellow footballer Harry Cooksley added: 'Nice G.'
Fans flooded the post with well-wishes, with one writing: 'Family first always! You can go back on All Stars another time xx.' Another said: 'Oh nooo you’re my fav boy in there!! Obvs family come first and hope is all well bless you.'
Abrupt Exit from the Villa
George had been forming a romantic connection with Robyn Langton and was also flirting with Mica Harris before his sudden departure. Fellow Islander Lorenzo Alessi delivered the news to the group that George 'wasn't ever coming back,' leaving everyone shocked. The Surrey-based star’s exit was not explained on the show, sparking widespread speculation.
