Macclesfield Male Voice Choir Launches Pop-Up Choir Initiative
The Macclesfield Male Voice Choir is making a bold declaration: all men can sing. To prove it, the choir is inviting men of all vocal abilities to join a special pop-up choir for a charity concert this spring.
Event Details and Rehearsal Schedule
The pop-up choir will perform at the Macclesfield United Reformed Church on Saturday, April 18, with the concert starting at 7.30pm. To prepare, eight rehearsals have been scheduled, beginning on Wednesday, February 25 at 7pm. All rehearsals will take place at the East Cheshire Hospice on Millbank Drive.
No Auditions Required – Beginners Welcome
Co-organiser Laurie Kennard emphasized that this initiative is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. "All men can sing to a certain extent, and we urge anyone interested to join rehearsals," he said. "Someone could be intimidated going into a room where 30 guys are singing their hearts out while they're starting from scratch. However, the idea is they all start at the same standard."
Kennard confirmed that there will be no auditions. The only requirement is that participants can hold a reasonable note. Experienced choir members will provide guidance and support throughout the rehearsal process. These mentors will then perform as guests of the All Men Can Sing choir during the concert.
Supporting a Vital Cause
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to the East Cheshire Hospice to fund its dementia singing programme. This initiative not only offers a creative outlet but also contributes to an important community health service.
Benefits Beyond Music
Kennard highlighted the broader benefits of participating. "This could be a way of making new friends, improving mental health, and helping raise funds for the Hospice," he explained. He shared an encouraging anecdote: "A friend went to a similar pop-up event and was reluctant to enter a room where everyone can sing properly. But once he tried it, he enjoyed himself so much that he's now joined that choir."
