Tabernacle Morriston Choir Celebrates 150 Years with Inclusive 'Come and Sing' Event
Morriston Choir Marks 150 Years with 'Come and Sing' Workshop

Tabernacle Morriston Choir is preparing to commemorate an extraordinary milestone in 2026, as it reaches 150 years since its establishment in 1876. To launch this significant anniversary year, the choir is extending a warm invitation to local residents for a vibrant and inclusive 'Come and Sing' workshop, focusing on highlights from Haydn's celebrated oratorio, Creation.

A Day of Musical Celebration in Morriston

The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, commencing at 11am at the Sacred Heart Centre in Morriston. Organised by Côr Tabernacl Treforys & Friends, also known as Tabernacle Morriston Choir & Friends, this gathering welcomes singers of all backgrounds, along with their families and friends, for a full day dedicated to music-making and community spirit.

Schedule and Activities

Participants will engage in rehearsals both before and after a light buffet lunch, which is included in the ticket price. The day will culminate in a shared performance at 3pm, allowing ample time for attendees to return home if they wish to watch the Wales rugby match later in the afternoon. This thoughtful scheduling ensures that everyone can enjoy the event without missing out on other weekend plans.

Words from the Musical Director

Musical Director Gareth expressed his enthusiasm, stating: "Everyone likes music, so take the first step and join us in singing some beautiful sections of Haydn's Creation. Make a day of it and enjoy a buffet lunch at the Sacred Heart Centre, Morriston. It will be a motivational, win-win opportunity and we can't wait to share the sheer joy of music with you."

Accessibility and Inclusivity

No prior musical experience is necessary, and all are encouraged to participate. Whether you sing high or low, you can simply join the section that best suits your voice. Those who own a copy of Haydn's Creation are invited to bring it along, although spare scores will be provided for those who need them. Visitors who prefer to listen rather than sing are also welcome to attend, enjoying the music, socialising, and relaxing with tea and coffee.
