Ozzy the Bull Dons Peaky Blinders Flat Cap at Birmingham New Street Station
Birmingham's beloved mechanical bull, Ozzy, has undergone a striking transformation at New Street Station, now sporting a distinctive grey flat cap inspired by the hit series Peaky Blinders. This creative makeover is part of an immersive installation on the station's bustling concourse, designed to celebrate the upcoming premiere of the film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Free Portraits for the Public This Weekend
In a special promotion, free portraits are being offered to members of the public from Friday until Monday, March 2, between 12pm and 6pm. This initiative allows thousands of fans to capture a keepsake moment with the iconic bull, ahead of the film's release, which is set in Birmingham during the Second World War. A red carpet has even been rolled out in front of the 33-foot-high mechanical sculpture, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Boosting Local Screen Tourism and Economy
Martin Simms, head of film and TV support agency Production Central WM, highlighted the significance of this installation. "New Street Station is one of the most visited stations outside of London," he said. "With Peaky Blinders being a global phenomenon, it's fitting to have this tribute in the heart of Birmingham, where the story originated." He noted that the series has led to a 50% increase in US visitors to Birmingham, significantly boosting screen tourism and the local economy.
The installation, a collaboration with Visit Birmingham, the West Midlands, and Network Rail, also features period-inspired scenic elements that reflect early 20th-century Birmingham. This effort not only honors the city's rich film heritage but also engages the community in a unique cultural experience.
