Ian Kudzinowski, a local author from Swansea, has self-published his first children's book, The Spiders Who Paid Rent, to raise money for the Noah's Ark Charity, which supports the Children's Hospital for Wales. All proceeds from the paperback edition will go directly to the charity.
A Tribute to His Mother
The story was created as a dedicated tribute to his late mother, who was a passionate storyteller. Kudzinowski said, "My mother always encouraged me to write, and this book is my way of honoring her memory while helping sick children."
About the Book
The Spiders Who Paid Rent is a comedic tale about a family of spiders and an adopted crane fly living behind a bookcase. The characters decide to stop living for free and start paying rent to a human family by providing daily pest control. The book aims to entertain children while promoting kindness to insects.
Personal Transformation
Creating the story helped transform Kudzinowski's own perspective on household insects. He used to be quite squeamish around house spiders, but spending time developing the characters has made him much kinder to real spiders in his home. "I used to be afraid of spiders, but now I see them as helpful little creatures," he added.
Charity Champions Initiative
The project has also received backing through Kudzinowski's company via its Charity Champions initiative, which supports employee fundraising efforts. The paperback is available on Amazon, and the author aims to raise as much awareness and funding for the charity as possible.
