Every Year After, the Prime Video series, follows childhood best friends Percy (Sadie Soverall) and Sam (Matt Cornett) through their tumultuous on-off friendship and romance. The Breakup: How It All Began
In a flashback to 2011, Percy and Sam first meet by a lake and quickly become close friends. Over the years, they begin dating on and off, with other relationships in between. However, after one of their breakups, Percy stops talking to Sam entirely, and they lose touch.
The Dark Secret: Percy's Betrayal
It is only near the end of season 1 that the truth comes out. In a flashback, Sam breaks up with Percy via email, leaving her deeply hurt. In her pain, she confides in Sam's brother, Charlie, and the two sleep together. Overcome with guilt, Percy cuts Sam out of her life completely.
The Aftermath: Reconnection and Confession
When Percy reconnects with Sam for his mother's funeral, old sparks reignite. Sam leaves his fiancée, hoping to reunite with Percy. But when Percy finally confesses what happened with Charlie, their relationship is thrown into chaos once more.
