A Magical Family Panto Comes to Southport
Southport Dramatic Club is delighted to announce its spectacular Christmas production for 2024 – the classic family favourite, Jack and the Beanstalk. Following a successful month that saw audiences enjoy 'Miss Marple' and 'A Tribute to Remembrance' with Skelmersdale Brass Band, the theatre now turns its full attention to this year's magical family pantomime.
Behind the Scenes of a Traditional Tale
This year's production stays true to the beloved story of Jack and his adventure up the beanstalk, with a script developed in-house to perfectly showcase the cast's talents. The company boasts a wonderful blend of younger performers who are developing beautifully alongside more experienced actors. Remarkably, one of the seasoned performers first trod the boards in an SDC pantomime as a child.
Even the director, Sian, is a panto veteran, having earned her stripes in numerous roles ranging from a fun fairy to a deliciously dastardly ugly sister. This deep-rooted experience in traditional theatre promises a production filled with authenticity and charm.
Performance Details and Special Events
Jack and the Beanstalk opens on Friday, December 19 and runs until Sunday, January 4, offering 16 chances to catch the show. Theatre enthusiasts are advised to book promptly, as matinee performances on the opening weekend are nearly sold out.
The production is committed to accessibility, with BSL interpreted performances scheduled for December 27 and 28.
For those who can't wait until December, the theatre is hosting a free Open Day on Saturday, November 29, between 11am and 3pm. This event offers a fantastic behind-the-scenes glimpse, where visitors can meet the colourful characters, explore props and costumes from past pantomimes, hear stories, try on outfits, and take photos. Refreshments and tickets for the main show will be available for purchase.
Packed with toe-tapping tunes, this pantomime is perfect for everyone, from panto aficionados to families creating new traditions. It's set to be the highlight of the festive season in Southport.
Information about shows, offers, and online booking is available on the Southport Dramatic Club website. In-person ticket sales are handled by the box office on Hoghton Street, accessible by calling 01704 530521. The theatre also offers discounts for block bookings.
