In a surprising revelation just days before the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour commences, one of the show's most recognisable professionals has shared a behind-the-scenes secret about her creative process.

Katya Jones, the 36-year-old dancer who has graced the BBC ballroom for over a decade, has confessed that she frequently takes costume matters into her own hands. While audiences primarily know her for her dynamic choreography and precise footwork, Jones possesses another significant talent that often goes unseen on television.
A Passion for Needle and Thread
Speaking candidly to Birmingham Live, the professional dancer explained her hands-on approach to wardrobe. "I'm always in the wardrobe department, sewing, stitching, rhinestoning," Jones revealed. Her dance partner Lewis promptly added, "Katya likes making her own costumes."
The duo, whose unmistakable friendship bond was evident during the interview, smiled warmly as they discussed this heartwarming aspect of Jones' backstage life. She elaborated further, stating, "I make my own costumes. I make my partner's costumes because they're [the wardrobe department] just so busy."
Sustainable Fashion Philosophy
This isn't the first time Jones has spoken about her dedication to costume creation and sustainability. Back in 2021, while partnered with Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, she took to her Instagram story to showcase her commitment to upcycling and repurposing outfits.
At that time, she revealed that one particular outfit worn during her single dance with Peaty was later reused in a group performance with fellow professionals. Alongside a photograph of the garment, Jones wrote, "You guys know how much I love reusing, repurposing and upcycling things in order to be more sustainable."
She continued, "Here's one brilliant example of how my outfit from the 'new pros' dance got reused for our ChaCha last night. Slight changes in the decorations colour, styling and Boom! This makes me really happy. And yet another proof of how amazing our wardrobe team is."

The Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour begins its run at Birmingham's Utilita Arena from January 23rd to 25th, where audiences might now watch Jones' performances with renewed appreciation for the craftsmanship possibly hidden in her glittering attire.
