Strictly Come Dancing Stars Reveal Wardrobe Secrets Ahead of Birmingham Tour
Strictly Stars Share Wardrobe Secrets Before Birmingham Tour

Two beloved stars from BBC's Strictly Come Dancing have offered fans an exclusive peek behind the curtain of the hit dance competition, sharing fascinating wardrobe secrets mere hours before the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour commences.

Inside the Strictly Wardrobe

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, 37, and his professional dance partner, Karen Hauer, have provided viewers with a rare glimpse into the meticulous preparations that ensure the show's dazzling performances run smoothly. The duo, who are set to return to the stage in Birmingham for the opening night of the Strictly Live Tour, revealed some little-known details about how costumes are secured during high-energy routines.

The F1 Pit Crew of Fashion

When asked about the secrets of Strictly Come Dancing, Harry and Karen carefully considered their response before unveiling a surprising wardrobe technique. Harry began by comparing the Strictly wardrobe team to an F1 pit crew, highlighting their incredible speed and thoroughness.

"The wardrobe team are like an F1 pit crew," Harry explained, smiling as he emphasised the efficiency of the Strictly staff. "So something that people don't know is for us men, our shirts stay down nicely because they sew our shirts on with pants."

He elaborated further, detailing the extensive measures taken to keep everything in place during performances. "Once you're then in [your shirt], they then sew your trousers to your vest. Everything is sewn down, even to your tie. You have to be cut out [after performing]."

Not Just for the Men

Karen quickly agreed with Harry, noting that this sewing technique isn't exclusive to male dancers. She explained that female performers undergo similar preparations to maintain modesty and precision during their routines.

"Same thing for the girls. Your dress is sewn onto your pants," Karen revealed. The dancer went on to explain that this trick is particularly crucial for the female dancers, who are often involved in dramatic lifts and spins that could otherwise cause wardrobe malfunctions.

"They sew the bottom layer of your skirt to your pants, so it's fun sometimes trying to go to the bathroom - because you can't!" Karen added with a laugh, highlighting the practical challenges that come with such secure costuming.

Birmingham Welcomes Strictly

The timing of these revelations couldn't be more perfect, as Harry and Karen prepare to dance their hearts out during the first show of the Strictly Live Tour at Birmingham's Utilita Arena. The tour runs from January 23rd to January 25th, offering fans in the Midlands a chance to experience the magic of Strictly Come Dancing up close.

This behind-the-scenes insight adds an extra layer of appreciation for the incredible work that goes into creating the seamless performances viewers have come to love. From the precision of the wardrobe team to the dedication of the dancers themselves, every element contributes to the spectacle that is Strictly Come Dancing.
