Aston Villa is preparing to send three more of its promising academy graduates on loan to French Ligue 2 side FC Annecy this summer, continuing a strategy that saw 26 players loaned out last season. According to The Athletic, Mohamed Koné, Kadan Young, and Zépiqueno Redmond are set to join the club, which finished seventh in Ligue 2 last season.
Previous Loan Success Stories
Last season, Villa loaned out 26 players, many of whom were academy graduates seeking first-team experience or aiming to prove themselves in the Football League. Some moves were arranged with Villa's partner clubs, including Real Union and FC Annecy. Triston Rowe and Travis Patterson both spent time at Annecy, with Rowe making 31 appearances, scoring once and assisting twice. Patterson joined in January and made seven appearances, gaining valuable experience.
V Sports' Expanding Network
Earlier in June, Villa's holding company, V Sports, acquired a minority stake in FC Annecy. Annecy now joins Japanese side Vissel Kobe and Spanish club Real Unión as part of V Sports' multi-club network. Aston Villa also maintains partnerships with Vitória Sport Clube in Portugal, ZED FC in Egypt, and ASEC Mimosas in Côte d'Ivoire.
What This Means for the Players
Mohamed Koné, Kadan Young, and Zépiqueno Redmond are expected to add quality to Annecy's squad as they aim to improve on their seventh-placed finish. The loans provide these youngsters with crucial playing time in a competitive European league, aiding their development.
