Remember Rhythm: Free Music and Movement Classes Launch for Staffordshire's Over-50s

Residents aged fifty and above across Staffordshire are being warmly invited to participate in a delightful new series of weekly music and movement classes, now taking place at both Cannock and Heath Hayes libraries. The innovative 'Remember Rhythm' sessions have been specifically designed to help older adults enhance their overall health and wellbeing, maintain an active lifestyle, and build greater confidence in a supportive group setting.

A Harmonious Blend of Music and Gentle Exercise

These completely free classes are delivered in a wonderfully relaxed and welcoming environment, expertly led by a skilled guitarist and singer alongside an experienced dancer. Participants are gently guided through a series of mostly seated exercises, incorporating a vibrant array of colourful props to stimulate both the mind and body. The focus is on accessibility and enjoyment, ensuring everyone can participate at their own comfortable pace.

Session Details and Schedule

The 'Remember Rhythm' sessions are held every Thursday. At Heath Hayes Library, classes run from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Meanwhile, at Cannock Library, the sessions take place slightly later, from noon until 1:00 pm. The programme is scheduled to continue until Thursday, March 5th, with a brief pause on Thursday, February 19th.

Hayley Coles, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative: "You're never too old for a bit of rhythm and rhyme. These gentle sessions are designed for older adults and are a brilliant way to help people stay active, improve their emotional wellbeing and confidence with a great opportunity to meet others."

She added, "They're informal and friendly and people are also welcome to just listen and chat if they are not comfortable taking part in the activities straight away. Supporting the health and wellbeing of residents is a key priority for the county council and it's great to see libraries helping make a real difference to people's lives."
