£25,000 Grant Launches Grimsargh School's £100k Playground Overhaul
Grimsargh School Wins £25k for Playground Revamp

A Lancashire primary school has secured a major funding boost to begin transforming its outdoor play facilities for future generations.

Vital Funding Kickstarts Ambitious Plans

Grimsargh St Michael’s Church of England Primary School has been awarded a substantial grant of £25,000 from Grimsargh Parish Council. This generous contribution will fund the initial phase of an ambitious project to completely overhaul the school's ageing playground equipment. The initiative aims to create a more imaginative, inclusive, and nature-rich outdoor environment for its pupils.

The funding follows over a year of meticulous research by the school’s Parent, Teacher and Friends Association (PTFA) into potential suppliers and equipment. The school requires a total of £100,000 to fully realise its vision, which includes replacing a 15-year-old trim trail and a cargo net, both of which are now out of use.

Community Support and Pupil Advocacy

The grant was formally presented by the Chair of Grimsargh Parish Council, Peter Burton. During the presentation, Year 5 pupil Ruby Clarke delivered a heartfelt speech to councillors, explaining passionately what the new play facilities would mean for her and her classmates. Her confident advocacy made a significant impression on the council members.

Peter Burton commented on the decision, stating: “The parish council was very impressed with the depth of research and detail in the school’s proposal, and it was clear how much benefit the project will bring to local children. We were also hugely impressed by Ruby, who spoke confidently and passionately on behalf of her school – she did a fantastic job.”

Headteacher Stuart Booth expressed his delight: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this support from Grimsargh Parish Council. High-quality outdoor play is vital for wellbeing, imagination, social skills and physical development. This investment will benefit the whole school community, and we are incredibly grateful.”

The Road Ahead: Work Begins, Fundraising Continues

Practical work on the project is already underway. During the October half-term, a portion of the old equipment was removed. The school is now in the process of selecting its preferred contractor, with the installation of the new trim trail expected to take place in summer 2026.

With approximately 70% of the school's pupils living in Grimsargh village, the upgraded playground will have a direct and lasting impact on the local community. However, with no available funding within standard school budgets for a major outdoor redevelopment of this scale, continued community support is essential.

The PTFA, chaired by Deb Jacques, now faces the challenge of securing the remaining £75,000 needed to complete the project. “We’ve made an amazing start, but we still have a long way to go,” said Ms Jacques. “Every donation - big or small - will directly improve the learning, wellbeing and happiness of children at Grimsargh St. Michael’s. We would love to partner with local businesses who want to make a meaningful impact in their community.”
