Kineton Green Primary Pupils Excel in National and Local Music Competitions
Children at Kineton Green Primary School, which operates under the Summit Learning Trust, are celebrating a remarkable series of musical accomplishments this term. These achievements include a prestigious performance on a national platform and a significant victory in a local choir competition, both orchestrated by the school's year 6 teacher and music lead, Miss Hannah Maddock.
National Stage Success at Young Voices Concert
This term, learners from years 5 and 6 participated in the renowned Young Voices concert held at the BP Pulse Arena. The event saw them perform alongside more than 6,000 pupils from schools across the United Kingdom, marking the school's third involvement in this large-scale national performance. Pupils had been diligently rehearsing on a weekly basis since September to prepare for this inspiring occasion.
During the concert, the children delivered ten songs, skillfully incorporating British Sign Language and choreographed dance routines. The event also featured professional soloists and performances by the acclaimed dance troupe Urban Strides, providing the young performers with an unforgettable experience of live music on a grand and motivational scale.
Local Triumph in Touchwood Christmas Choir Competition
In addition to their national exposure, Kineton Green Primary has secured outstanding success closer to home. The school entered the Touchwood Christmas Choir Competition for the third consecutive year and was delighted to be crowned the overall winner. Both of the school's choirs performed at Touchwood, presenting a varied programme that included traditional carols, songs from beloved Christmas films, and multi-part choral pieces, with opportunities for soloists to showcase their talents.
The choirs, which practise weekly, competed against approximately 20 other local schools and were selected as winners through a public vote. As part of their prize, the school received a £500 award, which will be directly reinvested into enhancing music provision across the institution, further supporting its commitment to musical excellence.
Central Role of Music in School Life
Music holds a central position in the daily life at Kineton Green Primary School. The school's music curriculum is thoughtfully designed to inspire self-expression and creativity, while encouraging each child on their individual musical journey. Through listening to and responding to a diverse range of musical styles, performing as singers and musicians, and exploring composition, learners develop confidence, reflection, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
Mr Neil Kitching, Principal at Kineton Green Primary School, commented:
"We are incredibly proud of our children and the dedication they have shown to their music. Participating in a national event like Young Voices and winning a competitive local choir competition are fantastic achievements, but most importantly they reflect the confidence, teamwork, and joy our pupils gain through music. These experiences stay with children for life and play a vital role in their wellbeing, creativity, and personal development."
