Plantsbrook School in Sutton Coldfield has issued a heatwave warning to students, relaxing uniform requirements as Birmingham braces for temperatures up to 34°C. The school, located on Upper Holland Road, announced on June 21 that blazers and ties would not be compulsory from Monday, June 22, for the duration of the amber weather warning issued by the Met Office.
Uniform Changes and Student Guidance
In a social media post, the school stated: "Blazers and ties do not have to be worn. Black tailored shorts that are knee length can also be worn." Students are also encouraged to bring water bottles or non-breakable cups, wear caps outdoors, and apply sunblock lotion when outside. The school added that it would continue to monitor conditions and update arrangements as needed.
Amber Weather Warning in Effect
The Met Office's amber warning for hot weather covers much of the West Midlands, with temperatures expected to reach 34°C. This follows a previous heatwave earlier in June. Schools across the region have been advised to take precautions to protect students and staff from heat-related illnesses.
Parents have been urged to ensure children stay hydrated and limit physical activity during peak heat hours. Plantsbrook School's proactive measures aim to keep students comfortable while maintaining a safe learning environment.
