After a brief respite from the record-breaking June heatwave, the UK is bracing for another scorching spell. Forecasts indicate temperatures will climb again heading into next weekend, bringing days of warm sunshine across much of England.
London and Birmingham to sizzle
London is set for at least eight consecutive days above 28°C from Saturday, July 4, peaking at 32°C on Thursday, July 9. Birmingham will not be far behind, with the mercury hitting 30°C on Tuesday, July 7, according to BBC forecasts. Wall-to-wall sunshine is expected between July 3 and 11.
Dry conditions persist
While some areas may see occasional rain, persistent rainfall appears rare over the next two weeks as the dry summer continues. This is likely to put further pressure on water companies following the June heatwave.
Met Office outlook
The Met Office's forecast for July 2-11 states: "A drier start to July for most. Cloudier towards the west, otherwise a good deal of sunshine for most. Some north-western parts may still see rain on occasion, perhaps accompanied by strong winds at times. Temperatures are likely to start off near average in the north and slightly warmer than average in the south, but fairly widely tending to increase further as high pressure dominates the weather into the second week of July, especially across England and Wales."
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat as temperatures soar.
