UK Braces for -13C Freeze and 70cm Snow as Arctic Blast Hits
UK Snow Forecast: -13C and 70cm Snowfall Expected

The United Kingdom is preparing for a severe and widespread freeze, with new weather data indicating the entire nation could be blanketed in heavy snow as temperatures are forecast to plummet to a bitter -13C and below.

Arctic Air Collides with Atlantic Systems

Following a brief, milder spell this week, a dramatic shift is expected in the final week of January. Detailed maps from forecaster WXCharts reveal that more than 70cm of snow could accumulate in parts of Britain. This extreme weather will be driven by low-pressure systems moving in from the north and west, which will clash with frigid air flowing southwards from the Arctic.

This collision is predicted to trigger significant snowfall where the moisture meets the cold air. The unstable conditions are expected to bring two major blizzards sweeping in from the Atlantic, leading to a period of disruptive winter weather.

Deep Freeze and Snowfall Predictions

The most intense conditions are forecast for Saturday, January 31. A WXCharts map for midday that day shows heavy snow affecting areas from the north of Scotland all the way down to the south coast of England.

Scotland is predicted to bear the brunt, with up to 71cm of snowfall possible. Northern England could also see substantial accumulations of up to 24cm. The snow is expected to hit northern regions first before progressing southwards.

Accompanying the snow will be a dangerous and penetrating freeze. On Friday, January 30, parts of Scotland could experience temperatures as low as -14C. For the rest of the UK, it is unlikely that any area will see temperatures rise above zero during this period, with an extensive -13C freeze anticipated.

Met Office Warns of Colder Shift

The Met Office has echoed these concerns in its outlook for January 22-31. It describes a battle between milder Atlantic air and colder conditions from the east. Initially, the Atlantic influence may dominate, bringing cloud and rain, particularly to western areas.

However, the forecaster states there is an "increased chance" of a general turn to much colder weather nationwide, especially after temperatures first drop in the North East. This transition significantly raises the potential for snow across many parts of the country.

The Met Office notes that while this aspect remains uncertain, the risk of widespread snow and sustained freezing conditions is clearly growing. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and warnings as the end of the month approaches.
