Major Crackdown on Problem Vehicles Near Hospital
A targeted operation by Sandwell Council has successfully tackled the issue of untaxed and abandoned vehicles causing disruption on streets surrounding the busy Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick.
The council took decisive action on Heath Street, Cranford Street, Fawdry Street, and Alma Street following complaints from local residents and politicians. The operation resulted in 23 vehicles being clamped or completely removed from the area.
Fines and Full Street Clean
In a separate but related action, council officials issued 18 penalty charge notices to motorists. The total value of these fines came to £1,600.
The environmental protection and neighbourhood services teams from the council led the operation. They coordinated with several partners to ensure its success, including West Midlands Police, Penham Excel, and the council's own parking enforcement team.
Adding to the improvements in the area, the company Serco conducted a full street clean on Heath Street, leaving the road clearer and tidier for residents, businesses, and visitors to the hospital.
Council Thanks Community and Partners
A spokesperson for Sandwell Council expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort, stating: "Thank you to our partners and those who raised issues."
The council is encouraging the public to continue reporting problem vehicles to help maintain the improved environment. You can report any untaxed vehicles on the highway or any suspected abandoned vehicles via the official council website at sandwell.gov.uk.
