Ongar Academy Secures Funding for Outdoor Learning Enhancements
Students at The Ongar Academy are preparing to transform their outdoor learning and play environments following a generous £5,000 donation from Persimmon Homes Essex. This funding, awarded through Persimmon's Community Champions initiative, will empower pupils to undertake several key projects aimed at improving the school's green spaces.
Planned Improvements to School Grounds
The donation will be utilized by students to replant sections of the playground, revitalize the school pond located on the Year 7 field, and establish a more inviting outdoor area for breaks and lunchtimes. These enhancements are designed to extend educational opportunities beyond the classroom and provide students with access to nature during their school day.
Community and Leadership Support
Headteacher Jonathan Sands expressed his gratitude, stating: "Thank you to Persimmon Homes for giving our students the chance to extend their outdoor learning and enjoy green spaces during their lunch breaks. Working with local businesses helps build a stronger town for our students and families." Epping district councillor Mary Dadd attended the cheque presentation and commented: "It’s great to see developers giving back to the community and supporting the school’s plans for their outdoor space. I look forward to seeing future projects together."
Connection to Local Development
Persimmon Homes has recently commenced construction on the Charles Church De Lucy Place development adjacent to the school, which will introduce 129 new homes to Ongar. Site Manager Christian Sims emphasized the company's commitment: "We’re proud to support the school and the wider community as we deliver much-needed housing to the town." This donation highlights the positive impact that local business partnerships can have on educational facilities and community well-being.
