The Rossendale Ramblers have been making the most of the autumn season with a series of picturesque walks that have showcased the region's stunning seasonal colours while largely avoiding the recent showers.
Recent Walks Through Autumn Splendour
Last Wednesday, fourteen walkers gathered at Ogden Water near Halifax for a ten-mile excursion that treated them to exceptional autumn scenery. The route took them past serene reservoirs, through the beautiful wooded valleys of Ogden Clough and Luddenden Dean, and across some rocky outcrops.
The walk also featured a cultural element with a poem by Kate Bush that paid tribute to Emily Brontë, the celebrated author of Wuthering Heights, which also inspired Bush's number one record of the same name.
On Sunday, the group stayed more local with a breezy six-mile walk around Clowbridge that attracted eight participants. This route included Compston's Cross and Clowbridge Reservoir, with golden autumn fields providing a spectacular backdrop throughout the journey.
Upcoming Walking Events
The Ramblers have several exciting walks planned for November that welcome both regular members and newcomers.
On Saturday, November 15th, the group will host one of their popular two-hour pub walks starting from Helmshore. This accessible walk will take participants to the slopes of Musbury Tor before returning to the pub for an optional lunch and extended social gathering. These shorter walks are ideal for those wanting to get to know the group.
The following day, Sunday, November 16th, offers a more challenging eleven-mile walk beginning from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, which is typically the starting point for the famous Three Yorkshire Peaks walk. While this route won't tackle all three peaks, it will visit Stainforth Force, which promises to be particularly impressive following recent rainfall.
On Wednesday, November 19th, walkers can join a ten-mile expedition starting from Burrs Country Park in Bury. This route will explore the Kirklees Trail, Redisher Wood Nature Reserve, and part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail.
Joining The Ramblers
All walks with Rossendale Ramblers are free to attend, though the group requests that after three walks participants consider joining The Ramblers organisation at a cost of just £3.75 per month.
