Erewash Council is launching a public vote to decide the design of a new £75,000 fun zone, with residents asked to choose between a woodland-themed haven or a castle-inspired playground. This initiative marks the third such consultation in the borough over the past two years, following successful projects in Long Eaton and Ilkeston.
Two Contending Designs for Play Area
The latest project, set for Erewash Square in Larklands, Ilkeston, will replace an existing playground. Option One features a woodland theme, complete with a treetop tower, a squirrel hunt trail, and sensory elements to engage children. In contrast, Option Two offers a castle-themed design, boasting turrets and a super-fast high slide for thrilling play experiences.
Community Engagement and Funding
Residents have until Friday 20 February to cast their votes, with the project funded by the Government's Shared Prosperity Fund as part of the council's Play Area Refurbishment Programme. Councillor Josy Hare, Erewash's Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, emphasised the importance of providing high-quality, accessible play spaces to support children's happiness and health.
Previous consultations have led to the creation of a showcase playground in Long Eaton's West Park and a fun zone at Ilkeston's Wash Meadows, locally known as Johnny's Park. This ongoing effort reflects the council's commitment to enhancing community facilities through resident input.
