Households across England are set to receive two new bins as part of a major overhaul of bin collection rules, with changes rolling out across the country from next week.
New Food Waste Bins
Many households will receive two new food waste bins: one small caddy to be kept indoors and a larger one for outdoor collection. Residents are now expected to separate their food waste into these new caddies.
The rollout of new services is happening at different times around the country. South Staffordshire Council is launching its new collections during June.
A spokesperson for South Staffordshire Council said: "Your new caddies for the Food Waste Collection Service will start to arrive from next week, ready for the new weekly service due to start in June."
"They will arrive as one pack - containing one small, indoor caddy; a larger, outdoor caddy; an information booklet; a roll of liners; and a tag to order replacement liners."
"Also included is a handy sticker that you can attach to the bin of your choice, featuring a simple guide on what can go in each bin."
What Can Be Recycled
Once the service starts, residents will be able to recycle all types of food waste, cooked or raw, including:
- Fruit and vegetable peelings
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
- Leftovers and plate scrapings
- Meat, fish and bones
- Bread and pastry
- Eggshells and dairy products
- Pet food
For those living in communal properties, the council will provide one small indoor caddy, a roll of liners, and an information booklet explaining how the service will work.
Residents are advised to keep an eye out for their caddy packs as they arrive over the next month.
