UK Braces for Snow on a Third of November as Arctic Bomb Hits
UK faces snow on a third of November with -10C temps

The United Kingdom is preparing for a significant wintry blast, with forecasts predicting snowfall could affect the country for a third of the remaining days in November.

Arctic Blast Set to Bring Widespread Snow

According to detailed weather maps from WX Charts, which utilise data from Met Desk and the GFS model, a period of sustained snowfall is expected. The projections show that from Tuesday, November 18, through to Friday, November 21, vast swathes of the UK will be impacted.

This four-day period represents a third of the remaining twelve days in the month. The forecast indicates that not only will northern England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland experience snow showers, but the snow is also likely to settle on the ground.

Plummeting Temperatures and Long-Range Outlook

Adding to the wintry conditions, the Met Office has issued warnings of bitterly cold nights. Temperatures are forecast to plunge to a bone-chilling -10°C in some areas this week.

The national weather service's forecast for mid-to-late November suggests a pattern of weather fronts moving in from the Atlantic, bringing widespread rain. This will be followed by more showery conditions with some brighter spells. The Met Office states that temperatures will be a little below normal for this time of year.

Looking further ahead, the Met Office's outlook for December and the Christmas period indicates a lot of uncertainty. However, there is a greater chance than normal of slower evolving weather patterns. This could lead to a mixture of conditions, including:

  • Wetter days with widespread rain or showers.
  • The chance of snow, mainly on higher ground in the north.
  • Some drier periods, increasing the risk of frosty nights and fog.

Overall, temperatures are expected to be close to average, but some colder spells remain possible, especially if any prolonged settled weather develops.
