Birmingham Hairdresser Speaks Out on Modern Hair Loss Dangers for Women

Rebekah Speake, a qualified hairdresser and hair extension expert based in Bromsgrove, has shed light on the contemporary factors contributing to hair loss in women. After initially leaving the hairdressing industry due to dissatisfaction, she returned with renewed passion following the birth of her children, ultimately founding BLND, a vegan haircare brand specializing in extensions and scalp treatments.

The Hidden Risks of Hair Extensions and Poor Products

Rebekah emphasizes that improper hair extensions are a significant culprit in female hair loss. She warns against synthetic hair, which can become matted and cause traction alopecia when combined with harsh brushing. "If you use extensions which don't consist of one hundred percent human hair, and brush, that's traction on the scalp and can cause alopecia," she explains.

Additionally, she points out that poor-fitting extensions damage hair follicles, leading to thinning. "It gives hair extensions a bad name when people apply a poor fitting, it's money-chasing people who don't care about the client," Rebekah states, noting she has witnessed distressing cases that highlight the need for better education on hair care.

Nutrition, Stress, and Weight-Loss Medications

Beyond external factors, Rebekah identifies internal issues as key contributors to hair loss. She mentions that nutrition, stress, and bodily changes play crucial roles. Notably, she addresses the impact of weight-loss medications, such as jabs, which are increasingly linked to hair thinning.

"Unfortunately, people aren't going to like me saying this, but people taking weight loss jabs are starting to experience hair thinning," she reveals. "We don't know how bad this medication will impact people's bodies in the future and it's already starting to thin people's hair. When you have rapid weight loss, you're losing nutrients and that's going to come out of the hair."

Promoting Hair Health with Natural Solutions

To combat these issues, Rebekah advocates for her scalp serenity range, part of BLND's natural product line. She reports that these vegan products have successfully revived hair for multiple clients, boosting their confidence significantly.

"A lot of my clients ask if I work alone because they don't want other people to see their hair and scalp," she shares. "They aren't confident and arrive teary-eyed, but leave with happy tears. By improving hair, confidence goes from zero to ten just like that. I've had some clients who felt like they didn't want to leave the house and are now confident."

Rebekah's insights underscore the importance of informed hair care practices and the potential of natural treatments to restore both hair health and self-esteem in women facing hair loss challenges.
