Comedian Alan Davies Declared Cancer-Free After Bladder Surgery
Comedian Alan Davies has shared an uplifting health update, confirming he has been given the all-clear after battling bladder cancer. The 60-year-old star was diagnosed in 2024 after noticing a critical warning sign.
Diagnosis and Treatment Journey
Alan Davies discussed his health journey frankly during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, set to air on ITV. He explained that his diagnosis came after spotting blood in his urine, a symptom he described as lucky to have caught early.
"In 2024 I had bladder cancer. Luckily, a little bit of blood in the toilet bowl and I saw it," Davies told the host. He underwent surgery to remove the tumour, involving a flexible cystoscopy procedure.
Expressing gratitude to his medical team, Davies revealed the successful outcome: "They got it out, so phew. It's not very nice and it's not as bad as you think. That's accurate." His positive prognosis marks a significant milestone in his recovery.
Personal Reflections and New Tour
The appearance on the ITV chat show also served to promote Davies' new stand-up tour, his first in a decade, which is currently touring across the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. He described the show as delving into difficult personal subjects.
"I lost my mum, there's an abuse story with my father, which I didn't really confront until I was really in my 50s," Davies shared. He emphasized the importance of open dialogue, stating, "This is the first stand-up show where I've been able to talk about these difficult subjects… let's not have shame, let’s all talk, talk, talk."
Davies highlighted his approach to blending humor with serious topics, noting, "You have to make it funny; very funny before it and really funny after it… weaving it into the thread of the show. If the show was a cake, this has got all the ingredients in. It’s a richer and better experience."
