A Birmingham man has been convicted of sexual offences against children, as well as possession of indecent images. Michael Wisdom, 67, was found guilty following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
Historic abuse reported
The case began when a woman came forward to report historic sexual abuse that occurred in Birmingham in 1979. Wisdom was arrested at his home after an investigation by West Midlands Police.
When officers knocked at his door, Wisdom attempted to destroy his mobile phone. However, forensic examination later confirmed that the phone contained dozens of indecent images of children, including Category A images, which represent the most severe category of such material.
Further evidence uncovered
The investigation also uncovered messages from Wisdom to a woman in which he discussed abusing a girl. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Wisdom denied all the offences and offered no alternative explanation for the evidence against him.
Conviction and sentencing
Wisdom was charged with indecent assault and possession of indecent images. On April 27, he was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court and remanded in custody ahead of sentencing, which is scheduled for July 13.
West Midlands Police praised the courage of the survivor who came forward, stating that her account was crucial in building the case against Wisdom and securing justice.
Support for survivors
The force encourages anyone who has experienced sexual assault or rape, regardless of when it happened, to report it to them. Support is available for survivors, and police will investigate all reports, no matter how much time has passed.
