An emergency medicine doctor who graduated in the 1990s has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Leicester for her extensive voluntary work improving emergency care for children globally. Dr. Davies, a consultant at University Hospitals of Leicester, received the Honorary Doctorate of Science during a ceremony at a regional venue.
Decades of Dedication to Emergency Care
Dr. Davies has spent 35 years enhancing emergency care for children in hospitals across the UK and overseas. She served as president of a global medical federation and helped create a free online learning platform to train medical staff in under-resourced regions. In addition, she co-wrote a medical textbook and launched a website, spottingthesickchild.com, to help healthcare professionals identify serious illnesses in children early.
Personal Reflections on the Honor
“I am deeply honoured to receive an Honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Leicester. As a proud Leicester alumna and as a medical consultant at University Hospitals of Leicester, this recognition is particularly meaningful to me,” said Dr. Davies. She added, “Alongside my clinical practice as an emergency doctor, the voluntary work for which I am being recognised is motivated by a desire to improve patient care and support the development of medical practice worldwide. I am enormously grateful to be awarded this honour.”
