A seven-year-old girl from the West Midlands, facing a heartbreaking diagnosis, has set her sights on a remarkable and heartwarming goal. Amelia Kolpa hopes to receive a staggering 8,000 birthday cards as she prepares to celebrate her eighth birthday in March.
A Courageous Fight Against Neuroblastoma
Amelia, from Halesowen, was first diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in September 2020. She then endured nearly two years of intensive treatment, which included gruelling rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy. Her condition eventually stabilised, offering her family a period of hope.
Tragically, in April 2024, the aggressive cancer returned, even after Amelia had taken part in clinical trials. She is now receiving palliative care at home, focused on managing her pain and keeping her comfortable, surrounded by her loved ones.
A Bucket-List Dream to Break a Record
Despite the immense challenges she faces, Amelia's spirit remains undimmed. She is compiling a list of dreams she wishes to fulfil, and one of the most prominent is this unique birthday ambition. She aims to collect 8,000 cards to mark turning eight years old on March 3.
Her aunt, Charmaine, is spearheading the campaign and believes the public's support can make this dream a reality. "She wants 8,000 birthday cards as she's turning eight," Charmaine explained. "There's not actually an official record. She thinks it's amazing, but doesn't think we'll hit the target! I think we will."
Overwhelming Community Response
The appeal has already sparked an incredible wave of generosity. After just 24 hours of launching, a single school delivered 397 cards to Amelia. A video sharing her story has been shared more than 5,000 times on social media, spreading the word far and wide.
A dedicated fundraising drive has also raised an astonishing £113,000 to support Amelia and her family. Those wishing to contribute via PayPal or make inquiries can contact: Amelianeuroblastoma@gmail.com.
