Nottingham Nurse Letwin MajeroMugomba Named National Home Care Nurse of the Year
Nottingham Nurse Wins National Home Care Award

NurtureCare has announced that Nottingham-based Community Children’s Nurse, Letwin MajeroMugomba, has been named National Home Care Nurse of the Year. She triumphed over thousands of nominations from across the UK.

A Testament to Dedicated Service

Letwin’s recognition is a powerful testament to NurtureCare’s 11 years and more of dedicated service supporting some of the most vulnerable children and families. The organisation delivers highly specialised, round-the-clock clinical care in the child’s own home. Her work enables children with the most complex healthcare needs — including those reliant on ventilators and other life-sustaining technology — to live safely outside of hospital settings and thrive within their communities. Through her exceptional care, many of the children Letwin supports are able to attend school, take part in social activities, and enjoy the experiences that every child deserves — opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach without such skilled and compassionate intervention.

A Personal Reflection

Speaking about the award, Letwin shared a deeply personal reflection: “Receiving the award for Exceptional Care in Home Care has touched me more deeply than I can express. This honour carries profound meaning — not only for me, but for every person who has walked beside me on this journey.”

Her journey into home care nursing is not only professional, but profoundly personal. After qualifying as a paediatric nurse in 2001, Letwin built experience across acute hospital care, community nursing, hospices, and health visiting. However, it was the loss of her own baby that shaped her life’s calling: “That heartbreak changed me forever. It taught me the fragility of life, the depth of a parent’s love, and the sacredness of caring for a child in the safety of their home. Every family I support is honoured with the compassion born from that loss.”

Support from NurtureCare

Letwin delivers this life-changing care with the support of NurtureCare, an Outstanding-rated provider delivering over 2,000 hours of specialist care at home each week. The organisation is known for its unwavering commitment to high-quality, child-centred care and for equipping nurses with the training and support needed to meet complex clinical demands. Reflecting on the achievement, Letwin was clear that the award belongs to a much wider community: “Although my name is written on the award, the heart behind it belongs to all of NurtureCare. Your support, encouragement, and belief in me have carried me through moments when I doubted myself. I am profoundly grateful.”

She paid tribute to colleagues and leadership, including NurtureCare’s Registered Manager: “To Angela Stewart, whose vision gave life to NurtureCare — thank you. You created a place where compassion is not just encouraged, but lived.” She also highlighted the families at the centre of her work: “Caring for your young people has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. You have allowed me to do what I love most, and I will never take that trust for granted.”

Recognition from Leadership

Angela Stewart, Registered Manager at NurtureCare, said: “Letwin embodies everything that outstanding care should be — clinically excellent, deeply compassionate, and unwavering in her commitment to children and families. This recognition is richly deserved. What stands out most is not just her skill, but her heart. She enables children with the most complex needs to live full, meaningful lives at home, and that is something truly extraordinary. We couldn’t be prouder of her.”

The Transformative Power of Home Care

This award not only celebrates Letwin’s professional excellence but also shines a light on the transformative power of home-based complex care — keeping children out of hospital and ensuring they can grow, learn, and flourish in the place they feel safest: their own home.
