Radnor Hills Hosts Prostate Cymru PSA Testing Day for Men in Powys
Radnor Hills Hosts Prostate Cymru PSA Testing Day

Welsh soft drinks manufacturer Radnor Hills is supporting Prostate Cymru by holding a PSA testing day to encourage men across Powys to get checked. Prostate Cymru is the leading charity dedicated to prostate health in Wales. This year marks the second year of its intensive regional roadshow, and the charity will visit 10 locations across Wales to provide subsidised Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood tests to men at risk.

Event Details

A Prostate Cymru PSA Testing Day will be held on Saturday, August 1, between 9:30 am and 2:30 pm at Radnor Hills’ headquarters in Heartsease, Knighton. Each test costs just £10, and booking is essential.

More than 2,500 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in Wales, and almost a fifth find out too late to be cured. Early detection can make a significant difference. The charity has reported that despite the fact prostate cancer often presents with no symptoms, many men find it difficult to access a free PSA test from their GP.

The simple and quick test checks the level of prostate-specific antigen in a man’s blood, and high levels can be a sign of a prostate condition.

Addressing a Gap in Healthcare

The initiative addresses a critical gap in men’s healthcare. With the recent campaign for a national screening programme for all high-risk categories being unsuccessful, Prostate Cymru’s community-led approach brings clinical testing to accessible, non-clinical environments such as rugby clubs, cricket grounds, and local businesses like Radnor Hills.

The 2026 tour aims to build upon the success of the inaugural year, in which thousands of men across Wales received vital information and early screenings.

Who Should Take the Test?

Men aged 50 and over, or 45 and over with a family history of prostate cancer, are encouraged to take the test, as are men experiencing urinary or prostate-related symptoms, or anyone concerned about their prostate health.

Statements from Organisers

Tina Tew, Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru, said: “Early diagnosis is the cornerstone of our mission. In Wales, the impact of prostate cancer is significant, affecting one in eight men, and one in three with a family history. By entering our second year of this dedicated testing tour, we are establishing a consistent presence in the community. We want to normalise the conversation around prostate health and make it as easy as possible for the males of Wales to understand their risk.”

Chris Butler, Marketing Manager of Radnor Hills, said: “Radnor Hills are proud sponsors of Prostate Cymru. As a rural-based business ourselves, we’re aware that our locality has lower rates of PSA testing, and this can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment. We have worked with the charity for a number of years providing them with free water at their events to keep them hydrated, offering raffle prizes for their roadshows and completing big walks to raise funds for them. As well as hosting a screening day for the public at our Knighton headquarters, we will also be inviting our own colleagues to have their PSA tested.”
