The Southport Macmillan Centre team is delighted to share their upcoming events, especially as the weather warms up and provides more opportunities to enjoy the town. For crafting enthusiasts, a Macmillan Makes Craftathon will take place at Holy Trinity Church Hall on May 14 from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Participants can try various ten-minute crafts at stations around the hall, including making bookmarks, greetings cards, felt hearts, and flowers. Lunches, cakes, and a raffle will be available, with proceeds supporting Centre activities. Entertainment will be provided by the Macmillan Singers. Crafting helps reduce stress and anxiety and offers a sense of achievement. The Centre runs two weekly craft groups: one at the Centre and one at Cherish on Albert Road, providing relaxation and companionship. Contact the Centre for details on the event or joining a group; no experience is needed as members share skills.
A group interested in improving physical fitness attended an event at Dunes Leisure Centre to learn about the benefits of exercise for cancer patients. In addition to regular groups, the Centre plans summer taster activities such as interval training, strength training, weights, and pickleball. Contact them to try a new sport. The Walking Group meets every Tuesday at 10:30am at the Atkinson, enjoying warmer weather, early summer flowers, and wildlife. A Further Afield Friday walk occurs on the last Friday of the month, with the May 29 walk starting at Hesketh Bank Booths.
