Tractor Tribute Raises £1,600 for Cancer Ward in Memory of Norfolk Farmer
Tractor Tribute Raises £1,600 for Cancer Ward

A convoy of more than 50 tractors took to the roads of North Norfolk to pay tribute to a beloved local sheep farmer, raising £1,600 for a specialist cancer unit. The charity vehicle run was organized by friends and family of Barry Egmore from Fakenham, who died in January at age 66 after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Convoy Route and Community Support

The tractors traveled from Thursford Steam Museum to Great Snoring Social Club, celebrating Barry's life and bringing together the local farming community. The event also featured a barbecue and raffle, with all proceeds going to Shouldham Ward at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn, where Barry received treatment.

Family Tribute

Barry's daughter, Rebecca Egmore, said: “We wish to raise money for the Shouldham Ward as my dad spent a lot of 2025 there and the staff were just like family. He used to always wish to go to Shouldham over any other ward. Sadly, he passed away there too.”

Organizer's Reflection

Vanessa Green, event organizer, said: “Last year we held a tractor road run to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK, as this is what Barry was fighting at the time with. We never thought that this year we would be holding a memorial tractor road run for Barry. When my partner and I agreed we would hold another road run, there was no doubt in our minds that we would be raising funds for Shouldham Ward in Barry’s memory. Barry was the most genuine, kind-hearted person you could wish to meet. He truly had a heart of gold and always making you laugh. Though this will never bring Barry back, I hope he is looking down, smiling and chuckling away.”

Hospital Staff Appreciation

The money raised will enhance the hospital experience for local people facing cancer treatment. Hospital staff remember Barry with great fondness. Jolly Thomas, ward manager, said: “Barry was one of those people you simply never forget. He brought warmth, kindness and a smile wherever he went, and even today our team at Shouldham Ward still talks about him with great fondness. It means so much to see Vanessa and Steven honouring Barry’s memory in such a thoughtful and generous way. This tractor run was a beautiful celebration of his life and the kindness he showed to others. We are truly touched by the support they have shown for Shouldham Ward, and we cannot thank them enough. From all of us on the ward, we so happy the memorial tractor run was a great success. I know Barry would be smiling with pride, seeing so many people come together in his memory.”
