A care home in Sandwell could nearly double in size under new proposals submitted to the local council. Superior Care Midlands has applied for planning permission to extend Warrens Hall Nursing Home on Oakham Road in Tividale, Oldbury.
Expansion plans
The plans involve demolishing two neighbouring bungalows to make way for a three-storey extension housing 32 new en-suite bedrooms. This would increase the total capacity from 40 to 72 beds. Additionally, four new rooms would be created within the existing building.
The project is expected to bring 30 new full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs, according to the planning application. The work would “significantly improve” existing facilities and “ensure the future financial viability of the home,” the application states.
Background
Planning permission for a similar extension was granted in 2008 but never carried out. The new application highlights the need for quality care accommodation in the area.
A statement included with the application said: “The proposed redevelopment will ensure that the local communities have access to the specialist care this home can bring, along with the senior living where care can be provided if required.
“The proposed home will ensure that the resident’s quality of life is greatly enhanced within a comfortable, within an ideal location, within an established community with whom they can maintain their links and involvement.
“The scheme is designed to ensure that the future viability of the home is secure and that it is able to meet the increasingly demanding needs of its future residents.
“The proposed redevelopment of this site represents a carefully considered scheme that will help deliver an enhanced facility for the local community as well as having associated employment benefits.
“There is both an identified local need for quality care accommodation in the local area and the proposal will provide a valuable community facility as well as extending the job opportunities for local people.”
