A significant fire outbreak in Bearwood has led to the complete destruction of a building and necessitated hospital treatment for one man. The blaze erupted on Poplar Road at approximately 8.30pm on Thursday, February 12, causing substantial damage to the structure.
Emergency Response and Scene Details
West Midlands Fire Service received initial reports of smoke in the central area of Bearwood at 8.34am. In response, the service dispatched four fire crews from Smethwick, Ladywood, Woodgate, and Oldbury to address the emergency. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the building, suspected to be a commercial garage located behind a row of shops, had been entirely consumed by the flames.
The fire service spokeswoman confirmed, "We sent four fire crews to the scene. A building believed to be a commercial building has been 100 per cent destroyed by fire. The incident has now been scaled back to two appliances."
Medical Assistance and Patient Condition
During the incident, a man sustained injuries from smoke inhalation, requiring immediate medical attention. A passing ambulance from West Midlands Ambulance Service stopped at the location at 8.46am to provide assistance. The ambulance service spokesman reported, "They treated one patient, a man, for the effects of smoke inhalation. He was then taken to Midlands Metropolitan University Hospital for further treatment."
The combined efforts of the fire and ambulance services ensured that the situation was managed effectively, with the fire being brought under control and the injured individual receiving prompt care. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage to the property and surrounding area.
