A man has tragically died after suffering a medical emergency while driving in a south Birmingham suburb.

The incident occurred on Wake Green Road in Moseley on the morning of Monday, 22 December 2025. West Midlands Ambulance Service was alerted at approximately 7.28am to reports of a medical emergency involving a car driver.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a male driver inside his vehicle in a critical condition. A rapid and substantial emergency response was mobilised, including an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a specialised trauma team, and a BASICS doctor.

Attempts to save the driver

Medical teams immediately began administering advanced life support at the roadside, utilising their full range of skills in a desperate attempt to save the man's life. Despite their extensive efforts, the driver could not be revived.

He was confirmed deceased at the scene a short time after the emergency services arrived. A spokesperson for the ambulance service confirmed the sombre outcome to BirminghamLive.

Major disruption and police investigation

The incident led to a significant police presence on Wake Green Road, near its junction with School Road. Officers established a cordon to secure the area for the emergency teams and to allow for an initial investigation.

The road was closed for several hours, causing substantial disruption to the morning commute. West Midlands Roads categorised the event as a road traffic collision and urged motorists to avoid the area, warning of heavy congestion in Moseley.

Local bus services were severely affected. National Express West Midlands confirmed that both the number 1 and 41 bus services were diverted away from their usual routes for several hours until the scene was cleared.
