DWP Lists 12 Conditions Most Likely to Get Long-Term PIP Awards
DWP Lists 12 Conditions for Long-Term PIP Awards

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the dozen conditions most likely to result in long-term Personal Independence Payment (PIP) awards. PIP provides financial support to individuals who require extra assistance due to illness, disability, or mental health conditions. Claimants do not need to have worked or paid National Insurance contributions to qualify, and eligibility is not affected by income, savings, or employment status.

Eligibility Criteria

To receive PIP, applicants must demonstrate difficulty with everyday tasks or mobility due to a physical or mental condition. These difficulties must have persisted for at least three months and are expected to continue for a further nine months. Applicants must reside in England or Wales (unless they or a close family member serve in the armed forces) and be at least 16 years old.

Award Duration

Award lengths vary, with the shortest lasting nine months and the longest extending to ten years under a "light touch" review. The PIP Handbook states: "The length of award will be based upon each claimant's individual circumstances."
