Customers were evacuated from Toby Carvery in Kings Norton on Saturday, August 29, after reports of a kitchen fire. Two fire engines from Kings Norton and Billesley stations responded to the scene on Pershore Road South just before 10am.
West Midlands Fire Service received the call at 9.50am and crews remained on site for almost 90 minutes, leaving at approximately 11.10am. A fire service spokeswoman confirmed that the restaurant had already been evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.
No casualties reported
The spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "We had a call at 9.50am and two fire engines from Kings Norton and Billesley attended. They attended reports of a fire in the kitchen. The restaurant was evacuated before we got there and there were no casualties."
Fire crews left the incident at around 11.10am. The specific cause of the kitchen fire was not revealed.
Customer describes evacuation
One customer who was inside the restaurant at the time described the moment the alarm sounded. Speaking to BirminghamLive, they said: "I'd literally just sat down to eat when the fire alarm went off and we all had to leave. That was around 10 minutes ago. I don't know how long it'll take to get back in. We may have to eat somewhere else."
The customer's uncertainty was short-lived, as normal service resumed shortly after the fire crews departed. Customers were allowed back into the restaurant and continued their meals as usual.
