Emergency services rushed to a residential street in Wolverhampton on Friday after part of a building collapsed, prompting a major response and road closures.
Emergency Response on a Snowy Day
The incident occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, with emergency crews arriving at Napier Road amidst snowy conditions. West Midlands Fire Service initially dispatched three fire and rescue crews to the scene following reports of the partial collapse.
Firefighters assisted one man from the affected building. Although he was checked over, it is understood he refused any medical attention and was not thought to be injured.
Precautionary Evacuations and Road Closure
As a safety measure, authorities closed Napier Road and took the decision to evacuate some nearby properties on the adjacent Dudley Road. This allowed emergency teams to work without putting residents at risk.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the actions, stating the evacuations were purely precautionary while they assessed the structural stability of the site.
Thorough Search Concludes
Fire service crews conducted a comprehensive search of the unstable structure using specialist equipment. To ensure no one was trapped or injured, a final sweep was performed with the assistance of a search and rescue dog.
This meticulous process confirmed that there were no casualties at the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service, which had sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers and its Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) after a call at 11.37am, reported finding no patients and stood down.
Following the completion of their work, the fire service handed over the incident to West Midlands Police for further investigation and management. The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
